My dear sister, I have gone to phone her several times over the last few weeks and then remember she is no longer at the end of the phone. We often had telephone conversations and discussed our days. She would offer advice so I now try to remember the advice she'd give and also her loving encouragement.
Some of my earliest memories are of playing with Carol with our toys and puppies on the farm. As we grew up Mum taught us both to cook and sew. We'd often be at opposite ends of the large kitchen table but much to mums frustration we did not share the skills of mums pastry making.
Carols health difficulties started during her childhood. I remember the time she bravely stayed in the London university hospital whilst there were bomb threats sometimes having to be evacuated from her ward, how scary but she took it in her stride. I remember her saying "I feel so weak" but she would still enjoy a game or colouring with me.
Singing and playing guitars, piano and piano accordions were interests we shared and of course activities in the church at Petton also having fond memories of our youth group we all attended.
At Christmas time we went carol singing from house to house, farm to farm. Carol and I often playing our accordions with Reuben also. Precious memories which will stay with us.
Carol has always been so caring, looking out for others- neighbours, colleagues, friends and family.
Carol loved being a mother to her beautiful daughters even if her first attempts of "Terry's nappy" folding brought tears and laughter as they fell off. With that skill mastered she worked hard to bringing as many opportunities and fun to the girls lives and what a great mum she was. Not only sister, wife and mum but also auntie to her nephew's and nieces. Always remembering birthday and anniversaries and taking ongoing interest in their lives.
I'm so thankful for my sister Carol, the times we had together, the laughter and tears and just being there. I will miss her so much but we have precious memories of many family days, outings and holidays. My loving sister friend and confidant Carol. What an example you have been to us all. xx
